Diejenigen die von einem Unlock abhängig sind, sollten die offizielle Firmware meiden! Es soll abgewartet werden, bis es möglich ist eine Custom Firmware der 4.2.1 zu erstellen, die ein Baseband-Update ausschließt.

iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS (alte Bootrom) und iPod touch 2g (keine MC-Modelle) können dank des pwnage2 Exploits für immer gejailbreakt werden.

Für Besitzer neuerer Geräte (iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (Neue Bootrom)) ist es mit geohot’s Limera1n Exploit auch möglich all diese Geräte zu Jailbreaken. Jedoch gibt es einen kleinen Hacken. Es ist zur Zeit nur ein Tethered-Jailbreak. Tethered-Jailbreak heißt, dass wenn euer Akku leer ist oder ihr einen Neustart des Gerätes durchführt, ihr euer iPhone an einen PC oder Mac anschließen und den Jailbreak neu einspielen müsst. Comex arbeitet derzeit an einem untethered Jailbreak für die iOS 4.2.1 für die aktuelleren Geräte. Voraussetzung ist jedoch der SHSH Blob der 4.1.

Wenn ihr diesen noch nicht gesichert habt, dann solltet ihr dies so schnell wie Möglich durchführen, solange diese noch verfügbar ist! Anleitung wie ihr den SHSH-Blob sichert findet ihr hier.

Next are the owners of all the more recent devices.  The good news there is that due to geohot’s limera1n exploit, all recent devices can be jailbroken (this will be true until Apple released new hardware that fixes geohot’s limerain exploit in the bootrom).  The bad news is that right now, the 4.2.1 jailbreak is *tethered* on all of these recent devices.  A tethered jailbreak means that each time your device loses battery power or needs to be rebooted, you must attach it to a PC or Mac to boot into the jailbroken state.  @comex is working hard on a method that may untether the 4.2.1 jailbreak, but it will require you to have your 4.1 SHSH blobs in order to use it.  No word on how much more effort it will take though (please don’t bug @comex about it!).  (We also have an alternative method that may work, but @comex’s method is much more elegant.)

So wie es aussieht soll fürs iPhone 3G und 3GS User der Unlock diese Woche noch erscheinen. Für den iPhone 4 Unlock sind noch keine konkreten Informationen verfügbar, dieser Prozess ist etwas komplexer.

ultrasn0w unlock: After redsn0w is officially released with the new Cydia and kernel patches, we’ll be able to assess the unlock situation.  It’s already looking very promising though, so expect the unlock for the 3G and 3GS to be coming this week.  The i4 unlock is taking more effort though, and no further concrete info is available about that yet.
